Untappd is offering a very special badge indeed for today's check-ins and there will be many. That's because today is the unofficial but illustrious National Beer Day.
In the U.S. National Beer Day celebrates the day in 1933 on which beer sales began after the repeal of Prohibition. This was the first of the measures that repealed the National Prohibition Act or Volstead Act of 1919.

The Cullen-Harrison Act allowed the sale and consumption of beer, but with a significant caveat; the beer could contain no more than 4% ABV.
This restriction hardly held back the revellers who were keen to have their first legal drink in thirteen years. It's estimated that Americans consumed an excess of 1.5 million barrels of beer on that first day alone.
So while you may not be suffering from the Volstead Act blues, I hope you'll carry out your civic duty and cozy up to a pint or flight of your choice today.
